The two articles I have chosen to focus on from my JSTOR are the "What is social media?" and "Social media as a Landscape." These two articles are similar but they have differences that I would love to get to explore. One of the ways in which the articles are similar is because they both discuss the ways in which anthropology plays a role in the description of social media and its purpose. The scholars that wrote these articles just want to know how social media is effecting society and how it has evolved over the year as well as understanding it fully.
The conventions for this type of article are...
1. References to illustrations/figures
2. Background research
3. Citations from other articles (included with the quotes)
4. Observations from their studies
5. Things they have learned from their research
6. Their inquiry
Some Affordances/Constraints are....
1. To inform its readers how to use social media
2. To inform its readers why social media is an important concept to understand
3. To delve deeper into the reasoning behind some of the things shared on social media
4. To show its readers the background information on social media
I would describe the Rhetorical features as a way to show readers the reasoning and background behind why we use social media and what it means to our society. The audience for this is people wishing to research social media and its background as well as professors teaching their classes about social media and its functions and reasoning.
The most important parts of these article are the parts that give the background on why social media is what it is today. These areas of the article are most important because we can not understand the reasoning behind why social media is what it is today without exploring the "why" it is the way it is.
